Shef's Kitchen private cooking class events include in-home cooking class parties, where there is hands-on and demonstration instruction for a group of people followed by a full buffet-style dinner. These "parties" can be simply a girls night out, couples class, date night, or gift to a friend or family member.
The private classes are participation-style classes but would include some demonstration-style instruction, handouts with all recipes, instruction on techniques, equipment, and nutrition as well as just general information on regional Indian cooking and spices. An optional masala spice box would be available for sale which can be customized to the menu of that day's class (however, we do need advanced notice if you think you might want this).
The advantages to these types of classes are the following:
- small class size with people you know
- classes scheduled based on your availability
- personalized and customized to your dietary preferences
- learning to cook using your own utensils and kitchenware
- using local, organic, or non-organic ingredients if you wish
- a delicious satiating meal at the end of class
- optional pre-class tour of an Indian grocery store
We can help you customize a menu by coming up with a few for you to choose from or picking one out based on your favorite dishes. Shef teaches a wide variety of dishes incorporating regional Indian cooking. Usually in a private class, there are 4-6 dishes which can incorporate appetizers, main dishes such as curries, lentils, and vegetable dishes, condiments such as chutneys and sauces, beverages, and/or desserts. Classes usually run about 3 hours and most of the time (depending on the menu) we will be able to actually cook all the recipes provided in the packet. Occasionally, a recipe will be provided for something that is an accompaniment that we don't have time to cook but you will still get to eat (such as homemade yogurt or a chutney).
